Busta Rhyme Poetry Competition for 11-18 Year-Olds


Busta Rhyme gives your students the opportunity to write a poem about something they feel passionately about.

Lyrical poets express emotion through verse on all matter of subjects, from current affairs, religion and identity to love, loss and everything in-between. It's a chance to voice opinion, share a memory or dilemma, impart advice, or indulge in writing about something they adore. From ballads and odes to rhymes and free verse, what inspires your students?

Our favourite poet each term will win £1,000! Plus we'll award the best school the Young Writers' Award of Excellence for them to proudly display.

Use the optional free resources to really engage and motivate your students to write. Resources include a lesson plan that looks at poetic techniques and lyric poems. Don't forget to have a look at the fun video trailer that introduces Busta Rhyme to your students!

“Hi Matthew, after the closing date the editors read every entry received, this takes 2-4 weeks to do. The editors then write to all the schools to let them know if they want to publish any work and return unused work with a reason why at the same time. If we'd like to publish your poem your school will have a letter to pass on to you. The winner of the £1,000 will be notified in writing later in the year once the books have been published. Thank you!”
