Poetry Emotions Competition

Poetry Emotions is a fantastic poetry competition for 7-11 year-olds that challenges pupils to create a character for an emotion, before planning and writing their poem!

Inspire and motivate your pupils to plan, draft and write an original piece of poetry whilst encouraging them to explore and talk about their emotions. Your pupils choose an emotion then use the planning sheet to develop ideas for their poem including which poetry techniques they will use.

Whether your pupils are inspired by a happy event such as birthday or a new addition to the family, or want to write about a time when they found themselves getting angry, Poetry Emotions is sure to get them feeling creative! Don't forget to sign up to our free weekly tip emails for fantastic writing ideas!

Also, our charity partner this year is YoungMinds. YoungMinds is the UK's leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people. They campaign, research and influence policy and practice on behalf of children and young people to improve care and services. They also provide expert knowledge to professionals, parents and young people through the Parents' Helpline, online resources, training and development, outreach work and publications. Their mission is to improve the emotional resilience of all children and to ensure that those who suffer ill mental health get fast and effective support.

Here at Young Writers we're aiming to raise a huge £5,000 this academic year to help raise awareness for YoungMinds and the great work they do to support children and young people. If you would like to get involved or see how much we've donated to date, please visit www.justgiving.com/Young-Writers.
